Exeter Health Library is located at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. Find out how we can help you in your training, education and daily work.
This NHS-managed library is on the first floor of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry building at the back of the hospital (opposite Exeter School on Barrack Road). We are now linked to the new RILD Building via a walkway - access only through the main RILD entrance.
Opening hours: core staffed 09.00 to 17.00 (doors open at 08.30) Monday to Friday. Access is now available 24/7 with NHS proximity or RILD out-of-hours cards. Contact library staff for details.
The Library was established in 1813 to serve the Devon and Exeter Hospital. In 2004 the Library moved into the Peninsula Medical School building on the RDE Hospital campus. The historical collections are now held in Exeter Cathedral Library.
Extracts from early minute books of the Exeter Medical Library show how the Library sought to "widen access to the knowledge base of healthcare" even before the Internet.
The library serves the staff of the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and the local NHS community, students on placement within the Trust, and the staff and students of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry/UEMS.
The library holds:
Over 10,000 unique print titles and over 12,000 items in total
