Your NHS Athens password will let you access the full-text of thousands of online journal articles, several dozen online books, and online databases, without having to remember a different password for each one.
If possible, we do advise you to register for NHS Athens from an NHS computer - your Athens access will be activated very quickly. You can register from home but it may take some weeks for your account to be set up via that route. To register for NHS Athens click here.

Some problems with Athens.
Although your Athens username will allow you to see the full-text of many online books and journals, what WON'T work is going directly to to the journal home page and using your NHS Athens details to log in. It's safest to login to NHS Athens first (http://www.athensams.net/myathens), then choose an option from the 'Resources' list or 'Local Resources'.
If you are an NHS user who has moved from a region outside the south west, you may find that some resources differ from those you could access at a previous hospital or practice.
If you are studying on a medical, nursing or other university course, you are likely to find that your university has wider and more up-to-date access to electronic journals and databases than the NHS as a whole - contact your university library for more advice.
