Exeter Health Library is located on the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust - Wonford site. This NHS library is on the first floor of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry building at the back of the hospital (opposite Exeter School on Barrack Road).

NHS Devon employees are very welcome to join Exeter Health Library, though for those in South Devon or Northern Devon it may be more convenient to join the libraries at Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, or South Devon Healthcare Library Service.

What are you entitled to?

You can borrow up to 6 books for up to 3 weeks from Exeter Health Library, as long as no one else has asked for them. Click here for more information on books and e-books.

Interlibrary loans

If you need an item we don't have in stock, we will do our best to obtain it for you. You will need to be registered with the library. Where your request is for your everyday NHS work there is no charge. Where the item is for funded research or an educational course we may need to charge you £8.50 per item to comply with copyright law and cover costs of obtaining the item. (If you're doing a course with a university, they will almost certainly have excellent electronic resources - contact their library for more information.) We will also need a signed copyright form. We need one per item to keep us legal.

Journals

You are entitled to access the online journals that the NHS has bought nationally in England - for most of these you need an NHS Athens username and password.

For more information on the small number of online journals available directly via Exeter Health Library and Wonford House Hospital Library please contact the library concerned.

Exeter Health Library also has additional walk-in access to online journals, available during office hours only (ID and signed copyright form required to use this service).

Click here to find out what health journals are available in the Exeter area.

NHS Athens

You can access NHS Athens resources including databases, journals and image banks.
Click here to login if you already have an NHS Athens username and password.
Click here if you don't have an NHS Athens username and password, or if your NHS Athens username and password have expired. NHS Athens usernames and passwords last for 2 years.

Training

We also have a dedicated Information Skills Trainer, David Newman, who is happy to visit your surgery or ward to deliver training (where there is more than one person to be trained), or for you to make an appointment to visit the library to train you here. Click here for more information about the training available. There is no charge for this service if you work for NHS Devon.
